The Ambassador Day brought together School Food Ambassadors in the West Midlands. The purpose of the day was:
- To share the Regional School Food Action Plan and update on
current activity
- To discuss the challenges of increasing school food take up in
secondary school food take up
- To identify what can be done to increase regional take up of
school food in secondary schools
- To share good practice and provide an opportunity for regional
networking

The Ambassador day brought together the 60 school food ambassadors in the West Midlands to provide an opportunity for them to network, be updated on the latest issues around food in schools and plan how we could work effectively in the West Midlands to deliver on the school food agenda.

Breakfast Club Training
Breakfast Club Training has been developed for staff working in schools to set up and sustain breakfast clubs. The training aimed a catering, teaching staff and other professionals working with schools to set up breakfast clubs covers issues such as staffing, activities, fundraising, risk assessment, food and nutrition, promotion and sustainability. More training sessions are planned for 2009 and dates will be advertised on the events page.
Early Years Nutrition Training
Early Years Nutrition Training has been offered to all Children Centre Managers within the region to ensure consistent food and health messages are promoted within Children’s Centres and that they are adopting a whole settings approach to food and health. The training is based on the Caroline Walker Trust Materials – Eating Well for Under 5’s in Childcare but also focuses on breastfeeding and weaning.
Behavioural Change Training
Over 850 health care professionals in primary care settings across the region have received training from the Behaviour Change Training Organisation to tackle both adult and child obesity. For more information contact David Elliott.
